It is also considered as one of the most concentration of the greatest ethnic diversity on earth,the lower Omo valley is the home of more than 18 different tribes that includes the colorful Hammer ,the painted Karo ,the Mursi famous for their women put lip-plate ,Konso known for their Landscape terracing ,Bena ,Tsemai, Nyangatom,Dassanech,and Erbore. The Omo River started and goes through the highlands and forests before be part of the lower Omo valley and finally enter to Lake Turkana.
Traveling to this greater region of pastoralists will provide to the traveler the idea how a population far away from civilization in the southern corner of Ethiopian Rift Valley survived to this day maintaining their old rituals and string culture. It has also special interest for palaeo-anthropological study, where the lower Omo valley has prehistoric sites at which ancient hominids have been discovered and it was recognized as USESCO world heritage site.
Drive to Arbaminch through the aligned Rift Valley Lakes that includes ziway,Langano,Abijiata and Shala lakes.it is about 500km and driving on the ways various ethnicgroups a long side of the road.Some of the tribes to be seen on this day include Oromo,Hadiya,Kambata,Gamo,Gofa and wolayita.Over night in Sweynes/Paradize Lodge.
Today drive will be descending down to the lowland of the main Rift Valley which ties with the Kenyan part and Lake Turkana. The total drive will be about 275 km on the newly asphalt road passing by different tribes.The most impressive of the tribes to be visited is the famous Konso Village known for Their communal life with so many daily rituals and the world renowned age datingTraccing system registered by UNESCO as a world heritage site.The drive continues to jinka passing through the tribal villages of Tsemay,Bena and Ari. Overnight in Jinka Resort Hotel(if this day is Thursday,we will have the chance to see the tribal weekly market which is considered as the highlight of the visit)
Early morning drive to Mursi Village passing Through the Mago national park which is less inhabited by wild animals but still have possibility to see some antelopes.upon arrival enjoy your stay with the lower Omo Tribes of Mursi people unique with their tradition of the women split and stretch their lower lips to make room for circular clay plates considered as signs of beauty.Return back jinka and the drive continues to the village of hammer called Turmi town.Overnight Buska Lodge.
Full day visit of the surrounding hammer villages known for their evening dancing and bull jumping to elaborate the young to be transferred to the manhood.Afternoon drive to the lower Omo river area which is very near to the keneya boarder and inhabited by the Dasenech tribes lives along side of the river.You will have the chance to cross the river and visit the other side of the villages of dasenech people.Return back to Turmi.Overnight Buska Lodge.(if this day is Monday/Saturday,we will have the chance to see the tribal weekly which is considered as the highlight of the visit)
Return back to Arbaminch and before getting to your hotel stop at lake Chamo for the boat trip on the lake to see the Crocodiles,Hippos and different bird life.Overnight in Sweynes/Paradize Lodge
